How to Renew Books & Other Materials

In many cases, library materials can be renewed by phone using the Telecirc system or online through ValleyCat. Either method will also tell you what items are checked out to you, when they are due, what items are overdue and what fines are owed as well as allow you to list and/or cancel requests for materials.
Things to remember about renewals

  • You need the 10-digit barcode number of the card on which the items were borrowed and the personal identification number (PIN) for that card. If you don't remember your PIN, try the last four digits of your home phone number. If this doesn't work, contact your local library for help.
  • Most materials can be renewed two times. Although, there are some very popular materials that cannot be renewed.
  • Items that are already overdue or are on hold for another person may not be renewed with either TeleCirc or ValleyCat.
  • The new due date is set based on the day you renew the item - not from the original due date. That’s three more weeks for most books, audio books and music CDs; one more week for most DVDs and videocassettes.
