Check Out and Return Library Materials

What can I borrow?

Borrow books, music CDs, audio books, DVDs, video games and magazines. We also have ebooks to download to read or listen to. You have access to materials at all of the public libraries in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Mariposa, Merced, Madera and Tulare Counties. All these libraries share materials through the San Joaquin Valley Library System.

If you cannot find the title you want, we can try to borrow the item for you from another library outside our system using our Interlibrary Loan service.

Can I use the same library card at any Library?

You only need one library card. It can be used at any Library anywhere in the San Joaquin Valley Library System.

Get faster service – bring your card with you every time you want to check out, renew, or request an item.

How many items may I borrow and how long can I keep them?

You may check out up to 25 items on your card. See the chart below for information on borrowing times and late fees. Go to Fines & Fees for a complete listing.

Where can I return items?

Return items to any Library location – regardless of where you checked them out. Most branches have book drops on the outside of the building to return items during closed hours. All formats (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.) can be returned in the book drop.

Always return items that have been classified as Lost to a staff person personally. This will ensure the charges for lost materials are reduced on your account.
