How do I text a Librarian?
First time users text askfcpl to 66746 for instructions. You should receive a reply saying “Success! Reply to this text w/ your question or msg.” After the first time, you don’t need to enter askfcpl. Save 66746 in your contacts as askfcpl.

How can I receive text message alerts?
To sign up for alerts, text askfcpl to 66746 then follow the instructions. Alerts will be sent for Library closures, service outages and special events.

When can I use the service?
We will respond as soon as possible during these hours of operation - usually within minutes. Questions sent outside these hours will be answered when open hours resume.

  • 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday
  • 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

Please be aware some text messages can be delayed or even fail due to problems with the connections between different telephone carriers.

What kind of questions can I ask via texting?
Use Text a Librarian to ask simple, quick questions (up to 160 characters) that can be answered in brief responses (up to 320 characters). If our responses exceed 160 characters, they appear as two messages.

What does the service cost?
The Library does not charge for this service, but charges from your cell phone provider may apply. These charges vary among plans and among telephone providers.

We respect your privacy.
We won't keep your phone number, but Mosio, the company that helps us provide this service, keeps it for a year as required by mobile service carriers. We may keep the text of your questions and our answers for the purposes of statistical reporting, research and training indefinitely, but we will never relate it to any personal information about you. Neither we nor Mosio will ever send you unsolicited messages.
