How to Return Books & Other Materials

  • Most books and other library materials are due in 3 weeks -- but some items check out for a week or less. Check your receipt so you can return things on time.
  • Most books, audio tapes, and videos can be returned to any public library branch in the San Joaquin Valley Library System. Rental books and tapes, special-loan, and reference items must be returned to the branch which loaned them.
  • If you have not finished using a book or other material when it is due, you can ask to renew it if you return the item during library open hours. Sometimes you will be able to keep the item an additional one to three weeks.
  • Book Drops outside public libraries are for BOOKS ONLY. You may place books in the drops to return them even when the library is closed. Audio cassettes and videos are likely to be damaged. You will be charged for mending or replacement costs for nonbook items damaged by return through book drops.
