High School Winner
Hands Are Flowers
Her hands are flowers,
Beautiful and unique.
They grow on her arms
Like flowers on stems.
Her fingers are petals
That wave around.
Birthmarks like dots
On faces of pansies.
Blood inside of hands
Like nectar.
Soft palms are center
That hug one another.
Nails are leaves,
They are sharp like thorns.
Hands are flowers.
Lovely and unique.

Middle School Winner
who are you
to say I'm not cool,
to make me look like a fool?
who are you,
to call me a geek,
to tell me I'm a freak?
who are you,
to tell me when to go?
i mean, how would you know?
did it ever occur to you,
that maybe I'm cooler than I look,
even if my face is always hidden by a book?
do you know why I'm here?
would you be able to tell,
if I was consumed by anxiety, or fear?
do you know my dreams?
or my fantasies?
do you know what friendship means?
did it ever occur to you,
that you don't really know me?
why can't you just up and say sorry?
