Day Care Outreach/Bookmobile

Mission/Goal:
To expose preschool children at Day Care centers in Fresno County to exceptional age-appropriate library resources and story programs.

Objectives:

• To introduce day care staff, children and families to the library as a valuable community resource.
• To improve literacy and listening skills in children using appropriate resources.
• To cultivate positive teaching methods in day care centers.
• To increase parental awareness and skills in reading to children.
• To contribute to life-long appreciation of language and reading.

Service:

• The Day Care Outreach Bookmobile visits day care centers throughout Fresno County four days per week over a period of 10 months.
• Children Librarians provide a 20-25 minutes story time each month incorporating the best in children’s literature with finger plays, rhymes, songs, and flannel board stories.
• Library staff also makes referrals to other library resources and programs, and other agencies.
