Programs and Collections
Opportunities for enhancing the collections of books and other materials for the Library are as limitless as the wide world, and the sum of human knowledge. Your gift may be used to purchase books and materials in genres of your choice. From children’s literature to philosophy, from history to science fiction, anything that contributes to the educational, informational and/or recreational reading needs of library patrons may be purchased with your gift.
All books purchased with your gift will have a gift plate recognizing your generosity unless you request otherwise.
- William Saroyan Collection
The Library holds one of the major collections of materials documenting the career and writings of Fresno’s own world renowned author, William Saroyan. Your gift will be used to enhance the collection, to organize and catalog it, and to preserve its books, documents and photographs for years to come. - Local History
To preserve the history and heritage of Fresno County and the Central Valley, the Library established the California History and Genealogy Room at the Central branch in 1993. Your gift will be used to help make this collection the most comprehensive of its kind. - Genealogy
Sharing space with the California history collection, the Genealogy resources of the Central branch are among the finest in the state and feature titles covering the entire world. Your gift will help people fill out their family trees and connect with their ancestors’ rich heritage. - Preservation Activities
There is always a backlog of rare and unusual Library items in need of conservation, everything from books needing special containers to community newspapers in need of microfilming. Your gift will help ensure that these treasures will remain safe in the Library’s collections for years to come. - Cultural and Literary Programs for Adults
Adult programming areas that are suitable for giving include the Library’s Adult Literacy Tutoring, Families for Literacy programs and the Big Read, a community wide reading program focusing on a single book. - Educational and Literary Programs for Children and Teens
Donations will help support the annual Summer Reading Program. Each year more than 8,500 children and teens particpate in the summer-long celebration of reading and libraries. Funds will be used to supplement the reading incentive prizes and to bring more performers to all branch libraries in Fresno County.
Donate Materials
The Fresno County Public Library welcomes donations of books, videos, CDs and DVDs. Materials need to be in good condition and will be screened for potential addition to the Library’s collection. Materials not added to the Library’s collection will be sent to the Friends of the Fresno County Public Library book store or sold at branch book sales. Donations can be accepted at any branch Library.
