Tranquillity Ready to Celebrate New Library

Tranquillity Grand Opening

Community members will join city leaders and library officials on Saturday, July 23, at 10 am to celebrate the grand opening of the new Tranquillity Branch Library. The long-awaited facility replaces the current branch which has served the community since 1937 from leased space in a tiny storefront building that dates back to 1911.

The new facility will significantly expand library services to the 1,192 residents of Tranquillity and to residents in other Westside communities currently without their own local branch library.

“This community is long overdue for a new, vibrant, updated library,” said Laurel Prysiazny, Fresno County Librarian.  “We are extremely pleased and proud to continue to enhance library service in rural communities where residents have long cherished their branch libraries as vital community institutions.”

The old library will close starting July 14 to prepare for the move into the new facility.  Materials can be returned to any other Fresno County branch library during the closure, including branches in Mendota and San Joaquin.

Funding for the new Tranquillity Branch Library was provided by the California Reading and Literacy Improvement and Public Library Construction and Renovation Bond Act of 2000, Fresno County Library District, Measure B, Tranquillity Irrigation District and Friends of the Fresno County Public Library.
